BENEFITS OF BEING A COUGAR HOCKEY PLAYER

Welcome, we want to let you know that you are joining a first class operation. The Cougars organization is dedicated to making your Spring Hockey experience a positive one.

We feel there is value in belonging to Cougars Hockey as our vision is to develop a community of players, and parents that have a sense of belonging with each other, meet and cheer for each other at tournaments and yet have a chance to compete against each other as well. Play with your friends, meet players from other cities all under the same brand. We feel this is a great experience for young players. We have a long term vision of developing young players from their youngest years to Junior A hockey and ultimately to higher levels of education and hockey and we can give players a leg up in making that climb to the best hockey.

YOUR CHILDREN

We are absolutely dedicated to ensure that your son or daughter receives the best training available. In today’s environment, in order for him to reach his/her maximum potential, training and conditioning is a year round requirement. As you know playing games does little to develop skills and 99% of your child’s speed, agility and core body strength development will occur during practices and off-ice training sessions. Our program offers them the ability to not only improve his skills but also create friendships that will last a lifetime.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Cougars/Renegades Hockey Canada has a long tradition of developing hockey players. We have designed our 2013 programs to suit the diverse wants and needs of all our players from Elite to AE/Select and Girls Hockey. In the pages included on the website you will see programs that you can take advantage of as an individual or team. Enjoy the top notch training and development from our experts in the industry. Starting with our coaching you can be comforted by the fact that you will be taken care of by the organization.

PROTECTION

Cougars Hockey is a member of NASHA (North American Spring Hockey Alliance) and this membership ensures that coaches and players are properly insured. Many independent Spring organizations operate without proper insurance putting you and your players at risk. We not only cover our players, coaches, volunteers, and staff for liability insurance they are covered for hockey participant insurance ensuring everyone is covered for any catastrophic injury not covered by provincial/state, or corporate medical plans.

ADVANCED HOCKEY/EDUCATION FOCUS

The management of the Cougars organization are also the management of the Burlington Cougars Junior A Team. We understand what it takes to get to the next level of hockey. Through our Junior experience we are dedicated to the hockey/education combination of developing a person. We believe in the opportunity hockey gives children to further their education using their hockey skills to obtain scholarships. The Burlington Cougars are one of the most recognized programs for assisting our players in obtaining Scholarships. You can see the many players who have gone on to a University education from our team on our website.

Thank you for your interest in trying out for the U18 Cougars Elite team.

The Cougars U18 Elite Team will conduct tryouts as part of the Junior A Burlington Cougars Tryouts. This provides two great opportunities, first is because the Junior A Cougars coaching staff will be evaluating you opening up opportunities to earn a spot on the Junior A Team and if not the U18 coaching staff will be there to speak to you about the U18 opportunity.

Please click here to see instructions to register. Once you get to the “add a program page” choose the JR A Tryouts link, there are many links so just scroll down the page until you see it.

Our tryouts include several inter-squad games to allow our coaches the best opportunity to see you play in real game action not just in drills. Each game has referee’s and is played just like any Junior Game. Teams will be balanced and might be re-balanced over the course of the games to provide the players the greatest opportunity to show their skill.

Goalies will begin tryouts on Friday night in a Goalie camp style. We will release Goalies on Friday as we reduce to the Goalies needed to play the games on Saturday and Sunday.

As noted in our flyer you will receive a $100 refund if you do not play on Saturday and Sunday.

SATURDAY WILL FEATURE A COUPLE OF NCAA PRESENTATION FROM PPI (Player Placement Inc)

It is your responsibility to follow e-mail for times and any other changes to the tryouts.

Thank you for your interest in trying out for the Burlington Cougars JR A team.

We run open tryouts so any one is allowed to attend no invitation required, we believe in giving every player an opportunity to show their skills.

The Cougars will have about 50% turnover like every year, we have players leaving because they are over aged, those going to University or College, and some moving on for other reasons so there is a lot of opportunity.

Please CLICK HERE to see instructions to register. Once you get to the “add a program page” choose the JR A Trouts link, there are many links so just scroll down the page until you see it.

The tryouts also double as a tryout for the Cougars Spring Hockey U18 Elite Team. This affords you two great opportunities, first to be seen by the Junior A Cougars coaching staff opening up opportunities to earn a spot on the Junior A Team. Secondarily is the selection to the U18 teams for the spring of 2013.

As part of the tryouts you will also have the opportunity to learn the proper steps in obtaining an NCAA scholarship with presentations by PPI Player Placement International CLICK HERE . You will also have meeting opportunities to speak with PPI (sports management hockey agency) to learn more about Junior Hockey, and the NCAA. PPI will be involved with the U18 program as they will be bringing (with assistance of Cougars Hockey Canada) various amateur and pro players to the practices and to assist the coaches in some games in the tournaments.

The U18 teams will also practice and tour the Northeastern University Facility with the Northeastern coaching staff prior to Chowder Cup Tourney!!

Our tryouts include several inter-squad games to allow our coaches the best opportunity to see you play in real game action not just in drills. Each game has referee’s. Teams will be balanced and might be re-balanced over the course of the games to provide the players the greatest opportunity to show their skill.

SUNDAY WILL FEATURE NCAA PRESENTATIONS FROM PPI (Player Placement International)

It is your responsibility to follow e-mail for specific game times and any other changes to the tryouts.

YOU CAN BE THE NEXT CORY CONACHER OR KEVIN BIEKSA FORMER BURLINGTON COUGARS PLAYERS!!

December 24thwas a great day for Jonathan Kreis as he became the first player from the Blyth Prep School Team to sign with the Burlington Cougars JR A team.

Kreis at 16 years old reached the Junior A level through the Cougars Development plan. He played Spring Hockey with Cougars for 2 seasons and then moved on to the Blyth Prep School Team where he has grown significantly as a player under the mentoring of Blyth Head Coach CJ. Morrison. Kreis joins Cooper Richards and Gavin Shantz both former Cougars Spring Hockey Players as the Cougars move into the stretch drive of the season.

GM Mark Hetherman said “It is the hope of the Cougars that over the next 3 to 5 years you will see over 50% of the Cougars having been graduates of Cougars Spring Hockey and the Blyth Prep School Team.

Kreis was quoted saying “I am very happy to be signing with the Cougars, this was my first goal in hockey and I look forward to working hard and developing as a hockey player and student eventually earning a NCAA scholarship.”

This report was written after Jonathan’s first game with the Cougars where he played very steady defense and fit in well with his new team. Coming up the Cougars play 5 of the next 6 games away from home but you can catch the Cougars at home on January 12th.

The Toronto Cougars can sign players from any market as is the process in Spring Hockey but we will concentrate recruiting more players from the GTA areas to help with travel and a sense of community in the Toronto market.

Look for more information to come in the next couple of weeks.
